How about those French Doors

So this project is simple, right? Remove windows and install French Doors. Just the name adds instant class and glamour to any sentence. What people don't tell you is that with removing of any structure and adding doors you need a permit. Yeah the permit police will get ya in a neighberhood like mine. No worries we figured that out, the rotten wood and supply of roach droppings was what stung us,

So here we go, taking out those windows and bringing the charm back to the Bungalow!

This was not a quick and easy job. The plaster is still on the wall and we had a TON more to do.

Removing all the plaster is a very messy job. We highly recommend taping up doorways and covering all air vents, you dont want dust and particles roaming your house.

This was taken after one window was knocked out, you can see the other still there. We had to stop the project because we found a lot of rotten wood from water damage. Rotten wood became my worst nightmare, it even trumped the red master bedroom.

There are the boards being replaced, no flashing no nothing. Our poor deck didn't stand a chance to our wet rainy winters down south.

My husband knocked out the plaster piece by piece to make this happen. We found roach droppings and tons of rotted wood, thank you old Bungalow owners for not weather proofing our deck...the water started from the deck and got into this wall. It turned out okay in the end only a few deck boards and some rot in the wall. However, the project took a lot longer than expected.

Talk about moveable traffic! This picture is taken from our backyard, as you can see i now have an array of doors to choose from when letting the dog out, headed to the kitchen, entertaining guests, or of course running from an intruder.

Old Owners Bungalow House Tour

So here is the Old Bungalow, we did a ton of changes and on the cheap too. You would be surprised what a good paint job, sanding, and furniture placement can do to update a home. Enjoy!

And finally the master bath, it got an overhaul.

Oh the red master, I really can't say how many nightmares this room gave me. The color alone is enough to send a buyer packing, but the placement of the bed and furniture was all wrong as well.

This is the third bedroom/office, its small and cute. We knocked out those two windows and put in french doors.

The fireplace, my favrotie spot. You cant tell from this picture but the marble is gorgeous and properly known as Alabama white marble. We had it cleaned and cleaned, trust me hire a professional cleaner to take years worth of neglect from an old fireplace.

The living room. The two colored walls and dated furniture made this room appear older and worn down.

Another view of the kitchen

The kitchen, its cute, but not us.

Oh the wonderful dining room, with years of painted over chair rale. They didnt have this set up in a user friendly way.

The Front of our charming Bungalow, not much has changed yet....

Picture of our awseome back yard. See those two windows? My wonderful husband busted those out and added charming french doors. We needed another way to get to the kitchen. Improving floor plan flow = return on investment.

Second bedroom at the Bungalow, see that chair rale? It had years and years of paint, the paint went on the walls and completely over the chair rale. It was not fun getting that off.

Second bath at the Bungalow, we have added a few cosmetic changes, but it does have a certain vintage charm.

Bungalow Kitchen Before

Do you see all the space to the left of the fridge? Hello previous owners, hidden potential, storage = return on investment.

This kitchen was great, function was there, cleanliness was questionable, but modern it was not...

Bungalow Way Reno

We saved a ton of money by re-using the cabinets. All we needed was a heavy sander and a ton of paint and as everyone says, going green is easy and doesn't compromise beauty.

Here we go, goodbye old kitchen hello new. The short countertops were out, the window seen here in black was raised to counter depth height. The previous window seat was precious, but what was its function? To the right of the raised window we added TWO built in pantries. These were purchased on the cheap from Lowe's. They were pre-made, all we had to do was add molding and paint and easy easy we had storage!

Bungalow Way Before

Again with the bright colors! I actually love this color, but in our 1500 sqft house you CANT use these types of colors, they make you and your guests feel boxed in. Trust me, I feel the benefits of the "after bright colored paint" daily!

This is where we do our laundry, lucky us its in our master bedroom. The little hallway leads to a washer dryer and an outside door to the deck. I have always wanted a door to the deck in my bedroom for two reasons: letting the pup out and escaping from an intruder.

Bungalow Way Before

The WC, no I am not a brit, but how else was I to add class to this sad picture. I know you are all wondering why I would post this before, that is because the after is a true sight to see.

Does anyone else notice the short countertops? I am a short lady and husband a tall lad, obviously we had to do something. Also, do the red walls make yall want to cry? I did, especially when i was priming them for HOURS!

This is the hallway leading to the master bath, my husband and dad built me an amazing closet that all the ladies will die for. But, you have to wait to see the afters to droll over my new place to rest my digs.

Welcome to the master bedroom! Red doesn't always work, I know accent walls are all the rage, but an entire room on the cusp of being small painted red, it just doesn't work.

Bungalow Way Before

Here is our adorable home, the previous owners stayed here in a passing point on ward toward becoming doctors. They were busy and never loved our Bungalow the way we do. Here are some Bungalow Way before pics, remember these are before we moved in!

The fire place needed a major clean up, we actually went the white marble and used it in renovating the master bath and kitchen

The wall broken up by two colors made the room look small and stubby.

The molding in the center was not working for us, the house is way too small to work with that. My first renovation project was actually to rip it all out and try not to ruin the wall. I did it successfully and after the house before tour i will proudly show off the after.

Bungalow Way

Here is our adorable home, the Bungalow sits perfectly on a corner lot loaded with charm. The Bungalow looks perfect from the outside, but the inside is another story. Please don't enlarge this image or you will see the out of control grass growth, oddly shaped boxwoods, and a sagging brick walk way. We actually have a landscaping plan that is to die for, but until we finish the inside the outside will stay the same.
